Buy bike insurance to protect your rides

 

To ride on the Indian roads on your bike you have to buy bike insurance or two-wheeler insurance. According to the Motor Vehicles Act,1988 buying insurance for your two wheeler is a must.

 

When you insure your bike you get protection against theft of your bike or damages incurred. If your bike is not insured then in case of any damages you will have to bear the financial costs. So buying a two wheeler insurance policy is beneficial.

 

Different types of bike insurance

There are two different types of car insurance. They are as follows:

 

Comprehensive bike insurance 

This type of insurance offers complete and thorough coverage to your bike. This insurance covers bike damage, third party loss or damage caused by your bike. The key point of this insurance is that it offers coverage in case your bike gets stolen. 

 

This insurance offers protection against fire, lightning, cyclone, earthquake, riot, hurricane, terrorist activity and frost. 

 

Third party bike insurance

This type of insurance is compulsory if you want to ride your bike in India. This insurance offers protection against any damage caused by your insured bike to third party person or third party property. It offers unlimited liability cover for body injuries or death of third party.

 

In case of property damage it offers coverage upto 7.5 lakhs. 

 

What do you need for claiming bike insurance?

You need the following while claiming bike insurance.

    • Completely filled and signed claim form

    • An FIR in case of accidental damage

    • Copy of your bike insurance policy document

    • Copy of a valid driving license

    • The original bill, cash receipt and proof of release

 

How to file a claim when your bike gets stolen?

You need to do the following when such an incident occurs and you have an insured two wheeler:

    • Immediately inform your bike insurance company that your bike is stolen

    • Lodge an FIR at the nearest police station

    • Fill the claim form and submit it

    • Give the bike keys, drivers license copy, bike insurance copy and the RC book of your bike

    • Submit the FIR copy along with the ‘No trace report’ to the insurance company
